Eddie Ottmann

With over 25 years the marcomms’ industry I began as a media planner in a London advertising agency (Bastable-Dailey) before moving into account management and planning.

I then helped set up an integrated marketing agency (The Primary Agency) with the key responsibility to oversee creative and production services.

For 10 years I then ran my own graphic design & marketing agency (Integer Media Communications) before ‘downsizing’ to EKO and now providing independent strategic marketing & creative consultancy.

Currently I am also the Sales & Marketing director for a number of clients including Interchange and Best! Football Holidays.

Over the years I have worked across a wide cross section of industries ranging from travel & tourism and exhibitions to publishing and commercial property.

Today I spend a fair bit of time in the charity sector and have a particular interest in Cause Related Marketing. I currently work with Just a Drop in a corporate fundraising & partnership capacity and am developing Curry4Charity as a social enterprise.

Armed with my Diploma in Marketing I also cut my teeth at Bastable Dailey Advertising & Marketing. After some time in recruitment advertising I helped set up their specialist Travel Classified Division.

In 1985 I took a year out to travel the USA and returning inspired by the culinary delights experienced there launched ‘The Designer Sandwich Company ‘selling an exclusive range of sandwiches through direct sales.

Two years later, to realise my passion of The Arts, I sold my equity and became the Sales & Marketing Director of Crowther of Syon Lodge, the UK’s leading architectural antiques company.

During 14 years at Crowthers I increased brand awareness in all major international markets, delivered lectures across the UK and USA and project managed award winning exhibits at many prestigious events including the Chelsea Flower Show.

On Crowthers’ closure in 2002 I formed Anthemion and continue to provide a discreet and confidential service advising private individuals, designers and specialist institutions on the sourcing, purchase and sale and conservation of fine architectural pieces.

I am also currently working on an exclusive art related and garden holiday programme as well as developing new business for EKO particularly in the arts’ sector.

I began my career producing computer-based CD-Rom’s for the Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A320 and have since been in the graphic & web design industry for over 10 years, most recently as the senior designer and studio manager for a London based agency.

Having worked alongside Eddie for 18 months I am delighted to now be a part of the EKO team and responsible for the company’s internal and external creative output.

By combining effective creativity with strategic marketing, my role is to ensure that design meets our clients’ business objectives. That  always also demands delivering on brief, on budget, on time.

I also work as a volunteer as part Curry4Charity team to raise vital funds to support the flood victims in Pakistan.

After training as an accountant I worked for several years for marketing and design agencies.

In 1998 I was appointed Hiscox’s Marketing & Communications Manager.

In 2000 I moved on to follow a lifelong love of cars and joined Haymarket Consumer Media as Publisher of Whatcar.com.

Success led to being appointed Group Publisher (Digital) across all Haymarket’s consumer titles and I represented the company on the AOP and PPA and also won the AOP Publisher of the Year title in 2004.

In 2007 I joined Dennis Publishing as Publishing Director looking after their online motoring division. I successfully oversaw the launch of iMotor magazine and latterly looked after Dennis’ Digital magazine portfolio.

At EKO one of my primary roles is to assist businesses redefine their content offerings and delivery processes across a full spectrum media platforms.

I have a particular interest in the personalisation of content and am currently developing a product to bring a commercial model of this concept to market.

After working in the banking sector in Northern Ireland I obtained a BA in Business Studies and joined Scottish & Newcastle Breweries.

I moved to London in 1994 to work for MML Field Marketing (then a division Wunderman Cato Johnson) on national projects for Coca-Cola and Blockbuster Video.

When the company was sold by WCJ, I assisted the outgoing MD set up MDI in 1996, a small Richmond based agency, specialising in events and sponsorship management as well as traditional field marketing including merchandising, auditing, mystery shopping and concession sales.

My clients included UCI Cinemas, Warner Brothers, NTL, Telewest, Top Up TV and the Department of Health (Award winning anti-smoking roadshow).

In 2006 I joined Headcount Worldwide Field Marketing (part of WPP) as an Account Director, working initially on tactical projects including Tesco Mobile, Virgin Media and Nectar (FM/BE Gold award winner). I spent 2 and a half years as Account Director and client liaison within Warner Home Video managing processes, implementation and communication between the nationally based merchandising and auditing teams across several divisions of Warner Brothers including Home Video, Theatrical and Games.

I am currently a Business Manager at Cosine - a multiple award winning Field Marketing Agency within the Omnicom group.

10 years ago, after sitting the CIW associate (webmasters) exams, I set up an independent website company providing web design, hosting and consultancy services. By recognising the need for simple, effective and understood web solutions - and using my wide reaching experience in business and marketing - the business is flourishing.
